10 days in the South Bronx, close to Harlem, to a subway station with several Express trains, to a huge store market (Bronx Market Place), facilities like Seven-Eleven, Burgers, Italian Restaurant, mobile phone shop nearby. A german-brazilian family of four persons visiting the „Big Apple“.
The appartment is situated in a quiet street with neighbours who obviously are interested in a safe and quiet neighbourhood. To underline it most of them put an information plate in the entrance. On the evening of our arrival Grover sent Stephanie to greet us and to show us the appartment. Kitchen and living room are shared spaces but most of the time the permanent residents of the house didn’t make use of it. There is a wifi internet connection but not with the same power in all rooms.
We enjoyed to be in NYC without staying in the middle of Manhattan, always busy. By subway downtown the northern Central Park was only 12 min away. A bit more than half an hour to reach lower Manhattan. Uptown we went to the NY Botanical Garden and Little Italy of the Bronx. Unfortunately we hadn’t enough time to visit the Bronx Zoo. Sometimes we used the bus, not expensive when you buy a metro card unlimited rides for one week.
The rooms were as clean as showed on the fotos. Little problems has been solved in a short delay. In spite of the fantastic fall weather it was a bit cold inside, the heating was not yet installed. So we used the mobile heaters for the „warm up“. One bed was noisy when moving on it. In summary I think we were very lucky having chosen this appartment north to Manhattan.
I recently relocated to NYC and needed a quick place to stay until my apartment was ready. The room was comfortable and clean, and so was the bathroom. Not to mention, I felt safe walking around the neighborhood. The local people were all very helpful.
Though I did not meet Grover, he was available and responded in a timely manner via phone and email to answer all my questions. The apartments location is 1 block away from the 2, 4 and 5 trains, which is convenient if you need to go further uptown, into Manhattan or Brooklyn. And it's also a quick train ride if you're looking to get to Time Square Square.
There is a Target a few blocks away if you need to grab toiletries, snacks, etc. The only drawback is that food options are a little slim if you're interested in eating healthy. However, it wouldn't impact my decision on staying here again.
A great experience, I highly recommend if you're visiting the NYC!
The house is a big brownstone located in a nice neighborhood in the Bronx section, very close to Yankee Stadium, with a subway stop right around the corner. It only took about 15 to 20 minutes to get there from midtown. I decided to stay here instead of a regular hotel to get a home away from home feel. I defiantly got my wish!
The interior is beautifully furnished, elegant and cozy. My room was very spacious, noise free, with a comfortable bed. It’s safe to say you will get a good night’s sleep. Everything from top to bottom was very clean, bathroom spotless! The people in neighborhood were very nice. Two different people said good morning as walk right down the street to a nearby dinner for breakfast. An extra bonus!!!
The owner is such a sociable and warm host, and will go to great lengths to make sure you're comfortable! He can also give you recommendations on restaurants and other activities in the area. What a great stay!!!
Great place to stay! Clean room (linens/towels), which is extremely important for me. Very nice, updated kitchen & bathroom. Very quiet home; never knew or heard anyone else in the home unless there was a chance meeting in the kitchen. :-) Quick walk (less than 5 mins) to subway and direct ride into Manhattan on the 4 or 2 train. Felt comfortable walking from the subway at night.
Very good welcome when we arrived the apartment late in the evening. The apartment is large and enough space for the 5 of us. Nice street that was decorated for Halloween. Short walk to the Subway that took us downtown in 20 minutes. The only ‘but’ is that the apartment was not very clean.
The flat is fine as long as you don’t need to reach the host for something going wrong.
In our case (we spent 8 days), we had a bad (or none) internet connection the whole time.
The big issue here is that we couldn’t reach the owner the day we arrived and the whole next day. I ended up with a high phone bill because I had to use my own mobile phone from abroad. Eventually they fixed it, it worked for a few hours and then nothing. The connection was on and off the whole time. We must have had a connection a total of 4 days. The ladies occupying the flat downstairs had the same issue (same owner).
What frustrated me most is how nice and available the owner seemed to be in the emails leading to the trip but once we got in NY there was nobody on the other end of the line. The owner told that they are not a hotel therefore I should not expect them to be available all the time. I had full silence for hours! He also told me that I shouldn’t let a bad connexion or lack thereof ruin my trip! I am sorry but 1) I paid for a flat with wifi 2) I decide what is important for me and as a traveler I rely A LOT on the internet to plan my activities and find my way around a city I don’t know.
That was my experience.
My best friend and I decided to go away on a weekend trip to N.Y and we had such a great visit because we booked this location. It's very close to the subway were we could hop on the train and take a short ride 20 min to Time Square and all the other major attractions. We saved so much money but not booking an overpriced hotel downtown.
The house décor is highly impressive and the house was really clean! The pictures on the site capture a lot of the apartments beauty but actually being there and feeling the ambiance really makes you feel at home. We feel like we now have a second home in New York. Total forgot when we booked that it was two floors and we had our own private entrance. Right around the corner from the house is an amazing Italian restaurant and a Target. One of the best things about this location is how secure we felt. As two females we felt very safe walking to and from the apartment in the early morning and evening, we actually ended up taking public transportation the entire time because it was so convenient. Their seems to be a family vibe to the street the house is on and the neighbors where welcoming and said good morning to us. I will definitely book another one of Grover's locations he was so helpful and provided us with maps, local attraction brochures and ideas of what to do on our trip. Such a super nice guy. I highly recommend anyone who wants to visit the city and have the comforts of home to book this location! Just don't book on the days I want to return lol
When I first booked the house I was afraid it would take a long time to get to the parts of the city I wanted to see. Turns out that the place was less than 20 minutes to get to Times Square and Grand Central Station. That was perfect since Times Square is where I really wanted to visit in the first place. Turns out I didn't have to spend that much time there as Harlem was a tourist destination on it's own. Saw cool things like the Apollo Theatre and the infamous Red Rooster restaurant which were all in walking distance. They were all super close by. There were also cool museums in the area and a lot of history on the streets. It all felt very historic. As for the house itself it was very spacious, two floors and very clean. I loved it. There was a full kitchen which I didn't really use as I wanted to try as many Harlem restaurants as possible. I really recommend this place as I had a great time with my friends visiting. Grover was great and even took us for coffee once we checked in and got the keys from him. Will definitely be staying here every time I come to NYC.
Only a few problems. Not as clean as Europeans would expect if asked to wear no shoes in the appartment. Broken toilet was a bummer. Blisters on my hand of using the plunger. Lukely for us after day 3 the plumber showed up. Parking your car nearby is not easy. No TV. No music at all, no radio, cd player( would be nice during cleaning).
Liked the area pretty much altough it did not really look "safe"... Starting using the NY Subways for the first time (after 5 NYc visits) and overall very satisfied as subway stations are also close to the appartment.
We loved our stay anyhow. Spacious appartment pretty well equiped...
Tip for the owner; see above to improve even more. Thanks for the late checkout!
