Presidential Suite One Stop from London Bridge
|地址||Fairlawn Mansions, SE145PH London, 英国|
The flat is 200 meters from New Cross Gate Station, which gives you access to the Overground and the mainline railway (Note: the Overground is connected to the tube/underground - it just runs over ground - all tickets are valid). There are also numerous buses, which pass the flat and go straight to central London, including several night buses, so you can always get home no matter what time of night!
You can be in Trafalgar Square (by train) in just 15 minutes. The vibrant and eclectic area of Shoreditch is also just 15 minutes on the Overground. The location is ideal for any tourist or person working in central London!
So far all the guests in the flat have been very nice, interesting and very respectful of one another. I believe that they have all enjoyed their stay. The apartment is maintained daily to a high standard.
In the local area you will find everything you need for a great stay; there are 24 hour food shops, cafes, restaurants, a big supermarket (Sainsbury’s) and bars all within walking distance to the flat. The flat is very close to Goldsmith University campus, so could be an ideal base if you are visiting the university for a conference.
The apartment is really convenient if you are visiting the Olympic games this summer. It is just 20 minutes by bus to Greenwich were a number of events are taking place, and just 20 minutes to the stadium at Stratford, via the Overground and Jubilee Line.
In general this is a great place to live. To keep it as such all guest need to follow the following rules for their own comfort:
Guest may use the kitchen on the following conditions:
They wash up all dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
They clean the cooker, hob, all work surfaces and table

Guests are asked to leave the shower in a clean and fresh state.
Guests are asked to leave the toilet in a hygienic and fresh state.
Guests are asked to wear house shoes in the bedroom and the rest of the house. Guests are asked to refrain from playing music before 10am and after 10pm.

I'm still a lil new to booking places to stay so I admit didn't realize we shared a bathroom. That aside, the Presedential Suite was large and kept comfortably heated. Going up the stairs to the room smelled off and that did not really set a good first impression. The rooms were all clean but the shower was possessed, couldn't make up its mind to be hot or cold and rhe lights in the bathroom flickered. The plus sude was that buses stop literally at our front door so was easy to hop on one. Overall, we got what we paid for but was a lil disappointed.
We had a great experience at Sidney’s place. Sidney gave very detailed information so that we had no trouble finding it. The apartment is large and old, but nice and cosy at the same time. Our room was the biggest. Everything worked well and the transport links were really good. We would recommend everyone who is planning to visit London to stay at Sidney’s place.
Thanks a lot for the accomodation. The room is simple but clean, the apartment is taken care of by Mrs. Vera very nicely. New Cross Road is very noisy (as is whole London) so one needs some tolerance but all in all we were very happy.
1) Very, very noisy
The New Cross Road has lots of traffic all night and all day.
You have sirens from ambulance all night.
Bus Garage from London Traffic is around the corner.
There is no difference in noise reduction between open and closed window (old single glass windows)
2) "Shared bathroom" is mentioned in the text, but I didn't read it carefully enough.
This means, there is one "bathroom" (toilet and 1 basin) for the whole floor (5 frooms, maybe 15 persons or more)
I took some fotos to document this, but wimdu had no interest to publish them.
After reading the last review we actually became a little concerned. However, Sidney did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. He even met us early in the morning to drive us back to the airport. The room itself is simple, but large. It is on the front side of the street, so if you are sensitive to noise, you may need earplugs. We were ok without. Sidney put the storage heater on while we were in the room and this made the temperature very nice. The rest of the property is large, with a decent size kitchen that you can use and separate toilet and bathroom. There are buses that go to the centre right outside the property and the station is two minutes away. From the station you can get a mainline train to London Bridge, which literally takes five minutes station to station.
Thanks again Sidney for all your kindness. We will come back here.
A suite for the (deaf) President of cockroaches!
First of all this room IS NOT IN LONDON BRIDGE. This is a BIG LIE. The area is called New Cross and it is a dodgy, dangerous, dirty and very noisy area of London. What makes this place even more dangerous is the fact that the keys to enter the building and flat are always left in the post box slot right outside of the house for anybody who knows (or has seen) that they are there. There is an unidentified number of disrespectful people living and moving in and out of the flat day and night. The first night we were there, a guy left in the middle of the night (after slamming his room door and talking on his phone like it is daytime) without bothering to close the main door of the flat, so basically woke up and found the front door wide open for everybody to help themselves in the flat! Couple that with the fact that the keys for the building are constantly in a public space and you can see the potential for disaster. I was living for 10 years in London and have lived in very ugly places. This room / flat is a definite champion.
The president of the cockroaches must be deaf because the presidential suite is by far the most noisy room of this horrible flat. The building is located on one of the busiest roads in London leading to the port for France, so you can get the picture. I am not even bothering mentioning the non-stop buses, ambulances and police sirens throughout all night and day. It is humanly impossible to sleep. Since the windows are from the 50s, don’t expect them to reduce the noise at all – at times I really thought that we had a window open, but no, they were all closed. The first 2 nights it was really cold in the room and the flat and we only found comfort under the duvet; the president of cockroaches does not feel any cold.
We brought our own bedsheets and towel because we read that one reviewer came in and Sidney had left the bedsheets of another guest. Also, Sidney in his welcome email lets you know that you may actually have to sleep in dirty bedsheets – if there is no time to change them netwen guests. Having our own stuff proved to be a great thing - we even used owr own duvet cover. Although our bedsheets looked clean, they had big oil marks all over which we found quite disgusting. Also there was no towel. However, I have to say that the common areas and the room were clean. The toilet was taken care of on a daily basis, which is much appreciated given the number of people who use it.
Since there are 5 rooms in the flat and some of them can accommodate up to 4 people, you may have to share the TINY shower and toilet with up to 8-10 people at a time. In our case it must have been 6-7, not sure. Don’t bother asking how long you have to queue and hold your pie (and other larger items) in the morning and you must be crazy if you expect to be able to have anything near a normal shower after 4-5 people have done so before you. So, the bottom-line is that if you are a champion in holding your pie indefinitely, remaining sleepless or sleep regardless of what happens around you, have a 30 second shower and risk having dodgy strangers in the night in your room / flat, then this is the flat for you. If you are the deaf president of the cockroaches, it is even better!
Unless you need to stay in a very cheap place, I won't advise this "Presidential Suite". There are only two good points : it's cheap and it is relatively clean. On the negative side :
- It is very noisy : the noise of the traffic will prevent anyone to sleep unless you are equiped with wax ear plug.
- As far as public transport is concerned, it is badly serviced : 20 minutes to London Bridge by bus ; you'll need to change the underground twice for a wholes journey of 40 minutes to get to downtown (piccadilly circus)
- one tiny shower ; one toilet that is in the same room of the lavatory. It would be ok if not for the 8 people or more that stay in the appartment : "Presidential Suite" is only one of the room that are rented here. Prepare then for queueing up in the morning, waiting your turn to go to the loo or to brush your teeth.

It´s recommendable suite
